The
whistle originated in
ancient China over 5000 years
ago, and was incorporated into
the European culture in the
11th century.
In
the early 1800s, the English
started making the six-hole
whistle that we are familiar
with today.
In
1843, an Englishman
named Robert Clarke, made
the first whistle made of tin
thus the name "Tin whistle".
Whistles
are referred to by
various names, including
Feadóg, Fipple Flute,
Flageolet, Penny Whistle, Tin
Flute, Tin Whistle,
and Vertical Flute.
